What is PMAY yojana
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was launched on 25 June 2015. The main objective of this scheme is to provide houses for all to live by the year 2022.
The scheme is being implemented with the participation of States/Union Territories (UTs) and Central Nodal Agencies
To provide houses to all eligible families/beneficiaries against the valid demand of houses of about 1.12 crores. As per the PMAY(U) guidelines, the size of a house for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) can be up to 30 square metres. Carpet area, however, the States/UTs have the flexibility to increase the size of the houses in consultation and approval of the Ministry.The main objective of this scheme is to provide affordable housing to the economically weaker and low income groups.

Types of PMAY Schemes:
Furthermore, PMAY is classified into two types:
Urban Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana: It aims to meet the needs of people who live in cities. Its benefits are available to people who fall into the Economically Weak Section (EWS), the Low Income Group, or the Middle Income Group.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin: According to the data collected, only those people who are homeless or live in one or two-room kutcha houses are eligible for the scheme’s benefits under this category.

Criteria for applying for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana:
The government uses the 2011 Socio-Economic and Caste Census to determine who will benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. This programme ensures that those in need of housing assistance receive it. The village panchayats are consulted before finalising the beneficiary list.
The following are the eligibility criteria that are used to select beneficiaries:
- Only Indian citizens who are women are eligible to apply for the scheme.
- The scheme is open to households with annual incomes ranging from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 18 lakh.
- Senior citizens and people with disabilities are eligible.
- Anyone who already owns a home is ineligible to apply for the scheme.
- The scheme provides an interest subsidy rate of up to 6.5 percent on housing loans to all beneficiaries who take out loans with terms of up to 20 years.
- The interest rate subsidy, on the other hand, varies according to income brackets.
- Up to Rs 6 lakh per year – A credit-linked subsidy of 6.5% will be available for loan amounts up to Rs 6 lakh.
- Up to Rs 12 lakh per annum – People earning up to Rs 12 lakh per annum will receive a 4% interest subsidy on a Rs 9 lakh loan.
- Up to Rs 18 lakh per annum – People earning up to Rs 18 lakh per annum will receive a 3% subsidy on their rent. a loan in the amount of Rs 12 lakh
- Any additional loans made in excess of the subsidised loan amount will be at a non-subsidised interest rate.
- Differently abled and senior citizens can get the preference of having a house on the ground floor under the PMAY scheme.
- Houses will be built using environmentally friendly and sustainable technologies.
